Grassroots Foundations & National Assembly (1999 – 2011)
Party administration and representing Anka/Talata Mafara Federal Constituency.
Beginning as a community organizer in Zamfara, Yari built his political career on direct engagement with rural communities — understanding their needs from the ground up.
Began in grassroots party organization during Nigeria’s democratic transition, serving as State Secretary, State Chairman, and National Financial Secretary of the ANPP.
Elected in 2007 to represent the Anka/Talata Mafara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, building foundational legislative and institutional accountability experience.
Executive Leadership & NGF Chairman (2011 – 2019)
Two-term Governor of Zamfara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
Leading statewide infrastructure development, agrarian reforms, and serving as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
Elected Governor of Zamfara State in 2011 and re-elected in 2015, prioritizing statewide infrastructure, education access, healthcare, and rural agrarian reform.
Unanimously elected Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) in 2015, driving national consensus-building, federal-state policy collaboration, and fiscal intergovernmental relations.

Representing Zamfara West in the 10th Senate & Chairing the Senate Committee on Water Resources.
Representing the people of Zamfara West in the 10th National Assembly with a focus on water resources, security, and economic support.
Returned to the National Assembly in 2023 representing Zamfara West, contributing executive and legislative governance experience to federal lawmaking and oversight.
Serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Water Resources, overseeing national irrigation, water security schemes, rural sanitation, and agrarian resource management.
